Q4 2011 - Market Summary

The near-term demand for health care workers in the Phoenix metro area bounced back in Q4 after slipping in Q3. Of note, the emergency department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital is undergoing a $1 million expansion, with completion expected in the first half of 2012.

On a comparative basis, the strength of the Phoenix health care labor market remained inline with much of the rest of the country. Its Q4 LMPI score of 50.5, up 6% from the prior quarter, was just under the national composite of 52.9, also up 6% from Q3.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital adds to ER. December 30, 2011
The emergency department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital is undergoing a $1 million expansion. The project is being done in two phases, with completion expected in the first half of 2012.
The expansion will add 16 patient exam rooms, two trauma areas, and a 24-bed observation unit. The construction will bring the number of exam rooms to 56 and the number of trauma treatment areas to four.

Kitchell, Orcutt-Winslow picked for Chandler hospital expansion. December 13, 2011
Kitchell will be the general contractor and Orcutt-Winslow the architect of the $125 million patient tower slated for the Chandler Regional Medical Center .
The project will add 96 inpatient beds, bringing the hospital’s total bed count to 339. Site work begins this month. Vertical construction is scheduled to begin in November 2012 with completion set for fall 2014.
