Q4 2010 - Market Summary
The near term demand for health care workers in the Phoenix metropolitan area continued to improve during the fourth quarter of 2010 despite some layoffs. Of note Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services laid off 140 as part of a downsizing and Carondelet Health Network eliminated 47 positions. On a positive note, Phoenix Childrens opened a new 11-story tower that increase bed size to 634 from 345 and Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center opened an eight-bed pediatric intensive care unit.
On a comparative basis, the Phoenix health care labor market continued its rebound posting a Q4 LMPI score of 59.0 up 19% from Q3 and compared to the national composite of 49.8.

Within weeks, patients and visitors at Phoenix Children’s Hospital will begin using the new 11-story patient-care tower. With further expansions in 2012, the number of patient beds will increase to 634 from 345.

Hospital Decides To Close Birthing Center. December 2, 2010
Hospital officials at John C. Lincoln North have decided to close their birthing center. Officials said the center will close in 60 days and some 100 nurses and support staff will lose their jobs.

Carondelet Health Network has eliminated the jobs of 47 local employees, officials confirmed. The employees, who all worked in patient financial services, have been given the option of moving to other positions within the company.

Recession a mixed bag for hiring at AZ hospitals. October 18, 2010
Despite layoffs at hospitals earlier this year, currently Mayo has more than 200 job openings in Arizona, both in clinical and nonclinical jobs, Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Goodyear is recruiting to fill 18 positions, and Abrazo Health Care is adding 40 new positions this year.
