Of note, Simi Valley Hospital plans to close its transitional care center, terminating the hospital’s license to operate the 44-bed unit. On a positive note, Mission City Community Network opened a clinic to assist low-income and uninsured patients, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles moved into its new facility.
On a comparative basis, Los Angeles health care labor market weakened during Q3 as measured by its Q3 LMPI score of 45.8, down 16% from the prior quarter and just below the national composite of 48.0.

Simi Valley Hospital, September 23, 2011
Simi Valley Hospital plans to close its transitional care center rather than pursue costly renovations. Earlier in September, Simi Valley sent a letter to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors asking for the termination of the hospital’s license to operate the 44-bed transitional unit, effective Oct. 10.

Mission City Community Network, North Hills. August 12, 2011
Mission City Community Network opened a second clinic at its North Hills location in an effort to help the center double its caseload of low-income and uninsured patients.
The network received $500,000 in federal grants for the expansion, which it used to secure matching funds from local governments. Kaiser Permanente also donated supplies for the new facility. The $1.6 million clinic expands the number of exam rooms from 12 to 24. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. July 22, 2011
Nearly 200 pediatric patients ranging from infants to teenagers recently moved from their unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to the hospital’s new $636 million pavilion.
More than 600 hospital employees underwent months of intensive preparation to move the patients to the new seven-story, 317-bed Marion & John E. Anderson Pavilion. The older hospital building has 286 beds. The new pavilion also includes a 26-bed emergency department and a larger trauma unit.
