Q3 2011 - Market Summary
The near-term demand for health care workers in the Detroit metro area rebounded solidly during Q3. Of note during the quarter, Henry Ford Health System opened its 32nd medical center in southeast Michigan with Henry Ford Medical Center Commerce in Commerce Township. Oakwood Healthcare Inc., a four-hospital system based in Dearborn, signed a long-term lease for a new headquarters building in Dearborn and will move 650 employees to the 135,000-square-foot, two-building facility. And St. Joseph Mercy Oakland broke ground on a new $129 million patient tower.
On a comparative basis, the Detroit health care labor market outperformed much of the rest of the country during Q3 as measured by its Q3 LMPI score of 54.2, up 18% from the prior quarter and above the national composite of 48.0.

Project to turn vacant Trenton hospital into nursing care, assisted-living center among recipients of MEGA incentives. August 16, 2011
A $12 million renovation to convert a vacant hospital and medical office building into a nursing care and assisted-living center in Trenton was among more than $170 million in investments approved for incentives today by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority. The authority expects up to $12 million in new investment that will create up to 163 permanent full-time jobs at the Trenton care center.

Oakland Regional Hospital to open foot and ankle clinic. July 29, 2011
Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield, a physician-owned osteopathic hospital, will open a foot and ankle center on Aug. 10, said Daniel Babb, Oakland Regional’s CEO. Two podiatrists on the hospital’s medical staff will run the center.
