Q3 2010 - Market Summary
The near term demand for health care workers in the St. Louis metropolitan area improved slightly during the third quarter. Of particular note, construction began on a $203 million expansion at the University of Missouri that will add a new cancer treatment center, an eight-story addition, 12 new operating rooms, 90 private rooms for patients and 300,000 square feet of new space. Also of note, SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton broke ground on a $23 million rehab facility that will employ 150.
On a comparative basis, the St. Louis health care labor market continued to improve for the third straight quarter registering an LMPI score of 49.03, up 4% from the prior quarter and just under the national composite of 50.62.

Alberici wins deal for SSM DePaul rehab hospital. August 20, 2010
Ground was broken on a new $23 million rehabilitation hospital at SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton. The hospital, which will employ about 150 people, will provide medical rehabilitation care to patients with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and neurological and orthopedic conditions.

St. Joseph’s to build new hospital in Highland. August 11, 2010
St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland plans to build a new hospital and welcome the first patient in early 2013. Hospital officials said the new facility will be designed with a focus on outpatient treatment and therapy. The 25 beds and private rooms will have an added “family zone” for family members to keep up with job requirements and sleep over.

Ranken Jordan plans $30 million hospital expansion. July 30, 2010
Ranken Jordan pediatric hospital is moving ahead with plans for an expansion with an estimated price tag between $20 million and $30 million. The rehabilitation hospital plans to add 26 beds to its current 34-bed Maryland Heights facility.
