Q3 2010 - Market Summary

The near-term demand for health care workers in the Seattle area continued to improve during Q3. Of note the Downtown Emergency Service Center is hiring nearly 100 people to staff a new crisis center in Seattle including 85 clinical management positions, including nurses and psychiatrists. Also of note during the quarter, Swedish announced plans to expand its research programs that include the hiring of additional full-time clinicians, research nurses, grant writers, database coordinators and publications assistants.

On a comparative basis, the Seattle health care labor market remained stronger than much of the rest of the country posting a Q3 LMPI score of 54.51, up 6% from the prior quarter and compared to the LMPI composite of 50.62.

Physical therapists in short supply in Washington state. July 2, 2010
There is more demand for physical therapists, without a significant increase in the number of people pursuing the profession. The American Physical Therapy Association has about 150 job openings in Washington listed in the trade association’s jobs bank.
