Q3 2010 - Market Summary

The near-term demand for health care workers in the Phoenix metropolitan area improved during the third quarter of 2010.  Of note during the third quarter was the continuation of delayed construction on the new Florence Hospital.  Construction had been delayed due to the economic downturn but resumed on the 40-bed hospital.  Also, the new Banner Psychiatric Center opened, expecting to create 50 new jobs.

Overall, the Phoenix health care labor market strengthened compared to much of the rest of the country during Q3, registering an LMPI score of 49.45, a 29% improvement from the prior quarter vs. the national composite of 50.62, which was down 14% from Q2.


Q3 Workforce Announcements

Construction is about to pick up again, with new hospital on the horizon in about a year. September 9, 2010
After a slight delay due to the difficult economic times, construction continues on what will be called Florence Hospital at Anthem. The hospital will have 20 multipurpose beds and 20 emergency beds. The Florence hospital will start with a nursing staff of 75 to 120 initially, with 225 full-time employees expected to be on board when the facility opens.

Banner Behavioral Health set to open psychiatric ER. August 27, 2010
Banner Health is opening a psychiatric emergency room on the campus of its Banner Behavioral Health Hospital in Scottsdale. The Banner Psychiatric Center is expected to create about 50 jobs and provide full psychiatric assessments to determine whether patients need to be admitted.
