Q3 2010 - Market Summary
The near-term demand for health care workers in the Houston metropolitan area improved during the third quarter of 2010. Of note, HealthSouth is planning to construct a new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, Harris County Hospital District and the Methodist Hospital are both opening new outpatient centers, and Texas Children’s Hospital is building a new maternity center, set to open next year. Also, Memorial Hermann Healthcare, Texas Oncology and US Oncology Inc. are collaborating on a new cancer center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City, while MD Anderson is opening satellite facilities.
Overall, the Houston health care labor market strengthened compared to much of the rest of the country during Q3, registering an LMPI score of 49.21, a 28% improvement from the prior quarter vs. the national composite of 50.62, down 14% from Q2.

HealthSouth Corp. is expanding on multiple medical fronts in Houston. The Birmingham, Ala.-based hospital company plans to construct a new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the Cypress area.

Collaboration creates cancer center. August 6, 2010
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Texas Oncology and US Oncology Inc. have joined forces to create a new cancer center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in West Houston. The collaboration involves the construction of a new 25,000-square-foot cancer center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.
The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center has also opened satellite facilities in Clear Lake, Bellaire, The Woodlands, Fort Bend and Lake Jackson.

Harris County sews up twin outpatient clinics. July 16, 2010
The Harris County Hospital District plans to construct two new outpatient specialty clinics in an effort to provide care similar to its private industry competitors in the Texas Medical Center.
The Methodist Hospital is also opening a new outpatient center, which is projected to handle 310,000 patient visits a year.
