The near term demand for health care workers in the Cleveland metropolitan area slipped during the second quarter of 2011 after remaining relatively stable over the past several quarters. Of note during the quarter, Cleveland Clinic’s Huron Hospital is losing money and is forced to close. With 850 employees, workers are being recruited as much as possible to nearby facilities.
On a comparative basis, the strength of the Cleveland health care labor market as measured by its Q2 LMPI score dropped to 40.3 from 44.2 the prior quarter, and remained weaker than much of the rest of the country as measured by the LMPI composite index of 49.9 for the quarter.

The Cleveland Clinic says it must close Huron Hospital, which is bleeding money and is half full many days. Huron has about 850 employees. Clinic officials said that they are actively recruiting those staff members and offering job opportunities at nearby facilities.
