Q2 2010 - Market Summary

The near-term demand for health care workers in the Dallas metropolitan area improved during the 2nd quarter of 2010. Of particular note during the quarter, Children’s Medical Center announced plans to build a $21 million pediatric specialty care center in Southlake that will house 54 staff members and physicians by this time next year, and an additional 82 staff within the subsequent 12-18 months.

On a comparative basis, the Dallas health care labor market is inline with much of rest of the country. Its Q2 2010 LMPI score of 53.8, up 12% from the prior quarter, compares with the LMPI composite of 58.6.

Children’s Medical Center expanding to Southlake. April 27, 2010
Children’s Medical Center is building a $21 million pediatric specialty care center in Southlake. The center will have about 54 staff members and physicians when the 34,000-square-foot first phase opens mid-summer 2011. The site is large enough to accommodate future growth, and the facility is scheduled to expand to 82 staff members within the first 12 to 18 months.

Texas Regional Medical Center opens Women’s Center in Sunnyvale. April 1, 2010
Texas Regional Medical Center at Sunnyvale is meeting the needs of patients in the city with the recent opening of The Women’s Center - a branch of the hospital that will provide women with labor and recovery rooms, a 10-bed nursery for newborns, and operating rooms for C-sections.
