Q1 2011 - Market Summary



The near term demand for health care workers continued to demonstrate volatility during the first quarter of 2011. After a significant gain last quarter, demand weakened although remained stronger than much of the rest of the country. Of note during the quarter, Loma Linda-Murrieta awaited final approval to open its new 106-bed hospital and Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar opened an expanded emergency room and a new intensive care unit.

On a comparative basis, the strength of the Riverside health care labor market, as measured by the HWS LMPI, fell by 19% to 60.0 yet remained above the national composite of 51.5.

Loma Linda-Murrieta hospital awaits approval to open. March 19, 2011
The new Loma Linda University Medical Center, a five-story, 106-bed hospital, has an emergency department, labor and delivery suites and cardiac, orthopedic and oncology care. Murrieta officials hope the facility, which is expected to employ 500 people, becomes a catalyst for economic growth.

New ICU, emergency rooms open at Wildomar hospital. February 23, 2011
An expanded emergency room and a new intensive care unit are now open at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, more than two years after they were built. An expansion of 26 emergency room beds, including four to be used for triage and four for urgent care, was put into use, as was the new 11-bed Intensive Care Unit.
